Nowadays, I had written many blogs on my blog. Unfortunately, it could not become my habit to write the blog every day, but I could gave the comments on the classmates’ bog for effective communication. Notwithstanding, I strongly agreed that blog is one of effective way to deliver the visualized representation.
On the other hands, after tenth lesson, I found that the skills and knowledge on how to use the software to make the visualized representation were not important. So, what is the important point I discover?
After the ninth lesson, i.e. gathering the comments on prototype of visualized representation, I found that different audiences had different requirements on visualized representation. It is difficulty for designer to make the optimal solution among them.
Usually, in our class, there were many classmates, who came from the different types of school and companies. They had their own experience and perceptions. Based on their situation, it is impossible to design the generalized visual representation to fulfill their all requirements.
After discussion with the classmates, we agreed that firstly we should narrowize the class of audiences. Secondly, we should explore the purpose of using visualized representation, such as the teaching tool or self-learning software. Thirdly, we should gather and filter the information. Lastly, we should select the appropriate software to develop and produce the visualized representation.
Thankfully, Daniel gave me more ideas and comments on how to design and develop the visualized representation. One point I agreed that practice and drilling were not main direction for interactive visualized representation. Such representations were the tools to deliver and facilitate the idea or knowledge to the audience.
Today, I am also the new hand man on design of such representation despite I have finished this subject. In future, I hope I can get more experience on it and design the thorough visualized representation.
It is summary of group assignment designed as at Flash version.

It is the final product of our group assignment, i.e. Ancient Egypt Technology, including the shadow clock and great pyramid. Since Theresa used Flash 8 to prepare the learning object, we should have the Flash 8 software to display the product, otherwise you can’t see anything in the screen. As a result, I don’t post the products on my blog.
Pls download both “Great Pyramid” and “Shadow Clock” from the following linkage, and execute them on different verions of Flash:-
I) Great Pyramid ( Prepared by Theresa Li. Pls see it at Flash 8 )

II) Shadow Clock ( Prepared by Oscar Lee. Pls see it at Flash MX )

After the complete of the MITE6323, Theresa and I are going to finalize the group project. During this week (i.e. 22/5/2007 to 28/5/2007), we will discuss and find out which area in the visualised representation should be further improved to meet the Daniel requirements.
Meanwhile, I will check and amend the post on my blog to ensure all requested by Daniel have been completed.
Amendment on the visualized representation based on the comments of classmates

Pyramid
|
Shadow Clock
|
- Make more pictures for rooms ingreat pyramid
- Make more user-friendly for audience to explore the secret of rooms.
- Display bigger pictures and bigger texts
- Highlight the parts of the pyramid when mouse over.
|
- Add the left arrow key and right arrow key for the audience to go previous or next frame.
- Correct the website and make it as hyperlink.
- Amend some words to suit the students.
|
Up to 7 May 2007 11:59, our group have received 6 classmates’ comments. The summaries are as follows:
|
Pyramid
|
Shadow Clock
|
- Some clear hints are necessary that the user can move their mouse over the picture to read some descriptions.
|
- Text on buttons are not that readable
- Add music in the background.
- Create better buttons.
- Create larger size of text.
- Create more interactive elements
- Both part of the program “how to be made?” and “how to work?” will be displayed after pressed the first button. Thus, they should be divided into two part, each button for one part only.
- Access the reference websites by clicking the reference links?

Our group will handle the comments at coming lesson that modify the prototype to meet the different requirements of users. However, different users has his/her preference on the design of prototype. Hence, the problems now we faced may be how to optimized the users requirements issued from different users.
At 30 April 2007, I had finished the prototypes of our group assignment and posted them on my blog. For the period from 1 May 2007 to 5 May 2007, I went to my classmate’s blog to comment their prototype. I only went to three groups and appreciated what they did. They gave me more hints on how to design the product completely. The followings are the comments I sent to these three groups
(A) Group of Lidia and Candy
-
In History item, I found that if I dragged the button exceed the right hand side of line (i.e. 1993), the pointer would not leave the button.
-
Could the website, which you provided, be hyperlinked?
-
There may be some layouts of the paragraphs such as missing the blank line between paragraph, inconsistent distance between the star symbol and the menu item.
(B) Group of Andrew
-
Try to give the hint directly printed on the picture, rather than shown at the other pop-up message box.
(C) Group of Dorothy
-
Do you finish the message box such as “Condensation”, “Transpiration” etc? It is because I click them but no response. If not finish, forget this comment.
-
After I clicked into “Evaporation” message box, the “Evaporation” pop-up window is shown, but the “Condensation” cloud was still working at the backward window. If it is specific design, pls forget this comment.
-
In “How is evaporation affected?”, Do you consider using the numbers of arrows and the speed of their movement to reflect the effect of evaporation, rather than the change of size of the arrow? When I moved the mouse pointer to the word “high” of relative humidity, not drag the button to it, the pointer changed to the finger.
There are two learning objects for Ancient Egypt Technology developed by our group. The followings are the prototype of learning objects written by Flash. Please see and comment them.
Ancient Egypt Technology
1. Shadow Clock
2. Great Pyramid
At the lesson 8, I and Theresa finalised what Eygpt’s technologies would be visualised by Flash. The similar items we had posted at our own blog. Hopefully, we would apply what Daniel taught including the knowledge on the visualisation and technical skills on Flash to make our group’s product.
During the lesson, Daniel commented that our group can develop the learning objects separately, and then linked together through the website or our blogs. It is not necessary to use the menu to implement the learning objects. Thus, it could effectively allow different users to get their interesting learning objects separately. Finally, our group can upload the prototype on time to allow the classmate for giving comments.
At this lesson, I could see our classmates how to present the storyboard about their assignments. Meanwhile, it gave some idea for me to amend our content of group assignment that avoided the problems our group would meet such as on design or technical knowledge.
Thank for the comments from Daniel after the presentation of electronic story board at lesson 7. We agree that technical skills using in the group assignment are not important. Also, visualised presentation is one of components on the lesson. Thus, I get the idea that the visualised presentation becomes the supplementary to help the audience for digesting and building up their own knowledge. Conclusively, it is challenge for our group to explore the efficient and effective ways to present and distribute the information. Amendment of Outline for Ancient Egypt is the amendment of outline for our group assignment. Pls CLICK it to see and give the comments.
After these lessons, I try to recognise the use of techniques on Flash. Fortunately, I can understand the operation of actionscripts introduced by Daniel. Hence, I try to amend the electronic story board again using the techniques learnt at these two lessons. The following is the amended simple story board. Please drag the Egyptian icon to see the content.
